As some of you may have noticed,
there hasn't been a lot of activity on the site since version 1.200 was
released a couple of weeks ago.
At the moment I'm in the middle a lot of things - not lease having the
builders and decorators around to replace the ceiling and redecorate
our dining room - which unfortunately is where my PC is. This means
that I've not had a lot of access to the PC lately, and this situation
is likely to continue for the next week or two.
I'll still be checking my e-mail but don't be surprised if things stay
quiet.
I've also been checking out some of the comments on the game (mostly
positive). One thing that does seem to keep cropping up is that
the game is too difficult.
Remember that the game is based around '80s platformers such as Manic
Miner, Technician Ted, Chuckie-Egg (and too many others to list) all of
which had a pretty high difficulty level. But with a bit of
practice all of them could be beaten.
I've beaten every level in this game (part of the playtesting don'cha
know) and can beat all 15 levels in a single session.
Some of the levels have been made easier between version 1.100 and
1.200, you start with more lives, you can earn bonus ones, the time
limit has been increased and a couple of the levels have been tweaked
to make finishing them easier (especially for some of the earlier
levels).
One thing I'm thinking about is adding in some (if not all) of the
levels from "The Perils of Willy". As it was a simplified version
of Manic Miner (but with more levels) it could be a worthwhile
addition. If I do add it in it will be a selectable option from
the main screen. I may also have to look at redoing the main page.
Other than that - I'd really recommend you getting your hands on Manic
Miner PC by those lovely fellows at RetroSpec. It's a perfect
clone of Manic Miner but with updated sound and graphics. I'm
aiming for something a little different to that but it should give you
an idea of just how damn hard the original was to play. Good fun
though.
